Magic Star Trek: first impressions of the revealed cards

What are the best Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek (TRK) cards revealed so far? The official preview season started on October 20, 2026, and by October 21 Scryfall already listed 158 unique cards from the main set — up from 91 in our October 15 price article. The new reveals include 13 new mythics, such as Mr. Spock, Science Officer, Kobayashi Maru Scenario, Quark, Humble Proprietor and Deep Space 9. Below is what each one does and our first impressions for Commander and Standard.

What has been revealed from Star Trek?

Wizards of the Coast opened the season with a debut stream on October 20, 2026, on YouTube and Twitch. The official schedule:

  • October 21 to 29 — daily previews from partners and content creators;
  • October 26 — We Are the Borg Commander deck; 27 — Federation Fleet; 28 — Klingon Fury; 29 — Landing Party;
  • October 30 — full card gallery;
  • November 13, 2026 — tabletop release (MTG Arena on November 10, prerelease November 6 to 12).

On Scryfall, as of October 21, the main set had 141 new cards (17 mythics, 26 rares, 43 uncommons and 55 commons) and 17 reprints — the 10 shock lands, Engineered Explosives and six commons. According to TrekCore, the full set will have 81 commons, 110 uncommons, 80 rares and 25 mythics, plus 10 common dual lands and 10 basics. That means only 8 mythics remain, while more than half of the rares are still to come. The Commander decks (TRC) already have 53 cards on Scryfall.

Dates, products and mechanics are in our set guide.

What are the new Star Trek mythics?

Since October 15, 13 mythics have appeared in the main set. The ones that change the game the most:

  • Mr. Spock, Science Officer ({2}{U}{U}, 2/4) — if you would draw a card, you draw two instead. He is also one of the 7 signed headliners.
  • Kobayashi Maru Scenario ({1}{U}{U}, enchantment) — at each of your upkeeps, you choose a mode you haven't chosen yet: return an opponent's creature with mana value 3 or less to hand, draw two cards, create two 1/1 Officer tokens — or lose the game.
  • Quark, Humble Proprietor ({2}{R}, 1/2) — at the beginning of each upkeep (yours and your opponents'), you create a Treasure; but while he is on the battlefield, you can't sacrifice Treasures.
  • Q, Stacking the Deck ({2}{R}{R}, 4/4) — when it enters, you shuffle and exile cards from the top until you hit a nonland card. From then on, during your turn, you can exile a card from your hand to create a copy of that card and cast it.
  • Deep Space 9 ({9}, legendary Spacecraft) — when it enters and at each of your upkeeps, it exiles the top four cards and puts every permanent among them onto the battlefield. With 9 charge counters, your creatures get +3/+3.
  • Captain Jean-Luc Picard ({2}{W}, 2/3) — your other creatures get +1/+1, and each creature or Spacecraft spell you cast makes a 1/1 Officer token; tapping seven Officers finds a Spacecraft and puts it onto the battlefield with seven counters.
  • Dr. Joseph M'Benga ({2}{G}{G}, 3/3) — doubles the counters put on your creatures, and those with counters have hexproof.
  • Seven of Nine, Unassimilated ({1}{U}, 0/4) — draws a card in your first main phase and only discards if you don't control five differently named lands.
  • Plus Khan, Vengeful Heart (a four-mana 5/3 that trades a creature or artifact for two cards and can be cast from exile), Lieutenant Commander Data, Borg Cube, U.S.S. Enterprise-A, Free Spirit and the legendary land Starfleet Academy.

Which rares and reprints stand out?

  • Engineered Explosives — the Modern staple returns as a rare; its cheapest printing was US$3.67 (Mystery Booster 2) on October 21.
  • Peace in Our Time ({3}{W}, US$14.95) — at each player's beginning of combat, that player may draw a card; if they do, they can't attack that turn and the enchantment gets a peace counter. With 12 counters at your upkeep, you win the game.
  • Live Long and Prosper ({5}{W}{U}) — doubles your life total and draws cards equal to the number of cards in your hand.
  • The Holodeck ({7}) — once per turn, play a permanent card you own from your graveyard or from outside the game.
  • Rare land cycle — Federation Outpost (white), Quark's Bar (red) and The Unicomplex (black) enter untapped from your third land on and, when they do, give a small bonus or surveil 1. At least the blue and green ones are still missing.
  • Lt. Cmdr. Geordi La Forge ({2}{U}) — doubles the charge counters put on your artifacts, which means Spacecraft get stationed in half the time.

What are Commander players already testing?

EDHREC numbers on October 21 show where the interest is, even before release:

  • Most-built commanders from the main set — Seven of Nine (the {2}{U}{B} uncommon, 257 decks), Dr. Beverly Crusher (188), Q, Stacking the Deck (159) and Captain Kathryn Janeway (109);
  • Most-included cards — Dr. Beverly Crusher (2.01k decks), Crystalline Entity (1.56k), Janeway (934), Dominion Saboteur (686) and U.S.S. Enterprise-D (559);
  • Most-built commander from the precons — Captain Kirk, Boldly Going (98).

Of the 13 new mythics since October 15, Q is the only one already among the most-built commanders. Spock, Kobayashi Maru and Quark have only been on the site for a few days.

What are the most expensive cards so far?

By TCGplayer market price as aggregated by Scryfall on October 21 (non-foil, English):

  • Khan, Engineered Evil (Sheoldred, the Apocalypse in Stardates) — US$199.99, or US$249.99 in foil;
  • Dr. Beverly Crusher — US$54.72;
  • Crystalline Entity — US$46.98;
  • U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Galaxy-Class — US$31.32;
  • Peace in Our Time — US$14.95.

This week's mythics — Spock, Kobayashi Maru, Quark, Q and Deep Space 9 — had no price on Scryfall yet. The value analysis is in our price article.

What changes for buyers, sellers and collectors

  • Wait for October 30 before locking in lists. Eight mythics and dozens of rares are still missing; each card's relative value shifts once the gallery is complete.
  • Want Spock's effect, not the art? The same text exists on Thought Reflection, a seven-mana card whose cheapest printing was US$0.88. What Spock adds is the creature body and the four-mana cost.
  • Have Engineered Explosives to sell? A reprint increases the card's supply. See who is looking for it on Explore.
  • Collectors: Mr. Spock, Science Officer is one of the 7 signed headliners (fewer than 250 copies each, according to TrekCore), only in Collector Boosters and always in English. Remember there will be no Portuguese version of the set.

Our take: card-by-card impressions

This section is opinion, based on the card text and the data above. There are no tournament results with the set yet.

  • Mr. Spock, Science Officer — the strongest card of the week for Commander. Doubling draws for four mana on a 2/4 body turns any blue deck that already draws a lot into a card-advantage engine. The cost is being a creature: it dies to creature removal, which everyone plays. In Standard it may eat removal right away, but one turn alive already pays for the card.
  • Kobayashi Maru Scenario — three turns of value (bounce, draw two, two tokens) for three mana, with a clock at the end. It only belongs in decks that can get their own enchantment off the battlefield — bounce, sacrifice or flicker — before the fourth upkeep. That is easy in Commander; in Standard it is a gamble. It is the most fun card in the set so far.
  • Quark, Humble Proprietor — Treasures you can't sacrifice are, in practice, a bank: the pile only becomes mana once Quark leaves the battlefield. At a four-player table that is four Treasures per round counting as artifacts, which works with Borg Cube (affinity for artifact creatures) and anything that counts artifacts. To us, it's a theme-deck card, not one for every red deck.
  • Q, Stacking the Deck — the better your nonland spells, the better Q gets. A four-mana 4/4 that can copy a strong spell every turn is dangerous; one that copies a low-impact card is just a 4/4. EDHREC already shows the interest.
  • Deep Space 9 — nine mana is expensive even for Commander, but four cards off the top every upkeep in a permanent-heavy deck is a very strong finisher. Out of Standard on cost alone.
  • Peace in Our Time — an alternate win condition that gives everyone cards. At a four-player table, the 12 counters can come quickly if opponents choose to draw; it's the card most likely to start table talk.
  • Picard and Enterprise-A — the white Officers deck looks like the most cohesive archetype for Limited and aggressive lists: anthem, tokens and flying ships.

Frequently asked questions

When does the full Star Trek card list come out?

According to Wizards of the Coast, the complete gallery is available on October 30, 2026. Daily previews run from October 21 to 29, with one Commander deck per day between October 26 and 29.

What does Kobayashi Maru Scenario do?

At each of your upkeeps, you choose a mode not yet chosen: return an opponent's creature with mana value 3 or less, draw two cards, or create two 1/1 Officer tokens. When only the last mode, Abandon Ship, is left, you lose the game — unless the enchantment has already left the battlefield.

Is the Star Trek Mr. Spock strong?

In our view, it is the strongest mythic revealed so far for Commander: for four mana, you draw two cards whenever you would draw one. Its weakness is being a creature, vulnerable to removal.

How many Star Trek cards have been revealed?

As of October 21, 2026, Scryfall listed 158 unique main-set cards (141 new and 17 reprints) and 53 from the Commander decks. The complete main set will have 296 numbered cards from common to mythic, plus dual lands and basics.

Which Star Trek cards are signed?

There are 7 headliners signed by actors William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, Patrick Stewart, Ethan Peck, Jeri Ryan, LeVar Burton and Brent Spiner. Each has fewer than 250 copies, comes only in Collector Boosters and is always printed in English.
