Reality Fracture: the set's 100 key cards

What are the key cards in Reality Fracture (FRA), the new Magic: The Gathering set? Here are 100 cards — all 26 mythics, all 64 rares and 10 uncommons worth a look — with what each one does, its market price on September 27, 2026 and what the first reviews expect from it. The set reaches MTG Arena on September 29 and stores on October 2, 2026.

What is Reality Fracture and when does it release?

Reality Fracture is the Magic expansion Wizards of the Coast releases on October 2, 2026, after prerelease week (September 25 to October 1) and the MTG Arena launch on September 29. The main set has 71 commons, 109 uncommons, 64 rares and 26 mythics, according to the official collecting article. The story takes place in the Echoverse, an alternate version of the Multiverse created by Jace Beleren.

Three ideas run through the cards below:

  • Echoed pairs — 86 cards (66 uncommons, 14 rares and 6 mythics) form 43 pairs: the same character in two different colors, one from the main timeline and one from the Echoverse. That's why there are two Ajanis, two Chandras, two Garruks, two Lilianas, two Lyras, two Samuts and so on.
  • Empower Jace — puts loyalty counters on a Jace planeswalker token; if you don't have one, you first create the token with "−1: Surveil 1" and "−3: Draw a card".
  • Prepare — the creature becomes "prepared" and you may cast a copy of the spell printed with it; doing so unprepares it.

The set also has Heartwood tokens (artifacts that tap for {R} or {G}), Cadet tokens (2/2 Wizard Soldiers) and five legendary two-color Elder Sphinxes (Denzilore, Uldaros, Ingris, Aerid and Kwia), one for each allied color pair. For the full picture of the set, see our Reality Fracture guide.

How we picked the 100 cards

The list includes every mythic and every rare in the main set, plus 10 uncommons chosen because they show up in reviews or are famous echoed pairs. Each card's rules text was checked on Scryfall on September 27, 2026 and summarized in our own words. The price next to each name is the TCGplayer market price aggregated by Scryfall, non-foil, English, on the same date — it's still preorder season, and that number changes daily. Each card name links to its page here on Collector Union.

What are the mythics in Reality Fracture?

There are 26 mythics. Two are reprints — Tarmogoyf and Chandra, Torch of Defiance — and six make up the mythic echoed pairs (two Ajanis, two Chandras and two Garruks).

  • Emrakul, the Exigent Doom ({10}, mythic, US$ 33.06) — Legendary 12/12 Eldrazi with flying, trample and ward — to target it, an opponent must sacrifice three permanents. When cast, it untaps all your lands. From your hand you can pay {3} and exile it: a land starts tapping for {C}{C} until you cast it from exile.
  • Enlightened Confidant ({1}{W}, mythic, US$ 7.91) — 2/1 Kor with lifelink. At your end step, if you gained life this turn, you surveil 1; if the card you put into the graveyard has mana value less than or equal to the life you gained, it goes to your hand.
  • Return to the Light Realms ({7}{W}{W}, mythic, US$ 19.46) — Nine-mana sorcery that returns every nonland permanent card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  • Seasoned Cryomancer ({1}{U}{U}, mythic, US$ 4.63) — 2/2 Wizard that draws two and discards two when it enters; for each nonland card discarded, it taps a target creature and puts a stun counter on it. Later, from the graveyard, {3}{U}{U} and exiling it draws two more.
  • The Theorist, Jace Beleren ({2}{U}{U}, mythic, US$ 26.97) — Four-mana planeswalker, loyalty 3, that makes you draw a card during each opponent's draw step. +1: 1/1 Illusion token; −2: bounces up to one artifact or creature from each opponent; −6: draw three and put +1/+1 counters on your creatures based on your hand size.
  • Bloodline Recollector ({1}{B} // {B}, mythic, US$ 30.87) — Two-mana 2/2 Vampire with prepare: at the end of each turn in which three or more creatures died, it becomes prepared. Its spell, Ancestral Craving ({B}, instant), makes a player draw three and lose 3 life. It has a 500-copy serialized version.
  • Darklight Phoenix ({3}{B}, mythic, US$ 21.76) — Four-mana 3/2 Phoenix with flying and haste. At the beginning of combat on your turn, if two or more creatures died this turn, it returns from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  • Overwrite the Multiverse ({4}{B}{B}, mythic, US$ 6.94) — Six-mana sorcery that exiles all creatures and then empowers Jace X, where X is the number of creatures exiled.
  • Craterclaw Colossus ({4}{R}{R}{R}, mythic, US$ 20.54) — Seven-mana 5/5 artifact creature with haste. When it enters, your creatures gain trample and get +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the number of artifacts you control.
  • Stingcaster Mage ({1}{R}, mythic, US$ 13.00) — Two-mana 2/1 Wizard with haste. When it enters, an instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until end of turn, at a cost equal to its mana cost.
  • Hexhaven Invigorator ({G}{G}{G}{G}, mythic, US$ 43.08) — 6/6 creature with vigilance for {G}{G}{G}{G}. Whenever it is dealt damage, you may search your library for up to that many lands and put them onto the battlefield tapped.
  • Omnipresence ({5}{G}{G}{G}, mythic, US$ 25.16) — Eight-mana enchantment: you may cast spells from your hand without paying their mana costs if their mana value is less than or equal to the number of creatures you control.
  • Tarmogoyf ({1}{G}, mythic, US$ 4.69) — Reprint of the two-mana classic: its power is the number of card types among cards in all graveyards, and its toughness is that number plus 1.
  • Aerid Konstrari ({1}{R}{G}{G}, mythic, US$ 12.22) — Legendary 5/4 red-green Elder Sphinx with flying. It creates a Heartwood token when it enters or dies; for {6}, it makes another token and gets +X/+0, where X is the number of artifacts you control.
  • Avatar of Burgeoning Echoes ({G}{U}, mythic, US$ 14.99) — 2/3 Avatar for {G}{U}. Whenever a land you control enters, empower Jace 2. Your planeswalkers gain a −10 ability that puts a +1/+1 counter on a creature for each land you control.
  • Denzilore Fatehold ({1}{W}{U}{U}, mythic, US$ 8.28) — White-blue 3/4 Elder Sphinx with flash and flying. Whenever you scry or surveil, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
  • Ingris Stingerquill ({B}{R}{R}, mythic, US$ 13.66) — 1/4 flying Elder Sphinx for {B}{R}{R}. Whenever a creature you control attacks, it deals 1 damage to each opponent. For {4}, it creates a 2/2 Cadet token and gives your creatures haste.
  • Kwia Vigorbloom ({3}{G}{W}{W}, mythic, US$ 24.81) — 6/6 Elder Sphinx with flying, vigilance, lifelink and ward {2}. Once each turn, when you gain life, it creates a Lotus token that sacrifices itself for three mana of any one color.
  • Uldaros Theorix ({3}{U}{B}{B}, mythic, US$ 7.97) — Blue-black 5/5 flying Elder Sphinx. If you cast it, when it enters it exiles up to one nonland card of each card type from your graveyard, copies them, and lets you cast copies with total mana value 6 or less for free.
  • The Echoverse Fulcrum ({2}, mythic, US$ 13.84) — Two-mana legendary artifact: it loots when it enters. Later, {5}, tap and exile it destroys all creatures, at sorcery speed.
  • Ajani Resolute ({1}{W}, mythic, US$ 25.96) — Two-mana planeswalker, loyalty 2, that gets a loyalty counter whenever you gain life. 0: gain 1 life; −4: a 2/2 Ajani's Pridemate token; −10: an emblem giving your creatures +2/+2.
  • Chandra, Chill of Compliance ({1}{U}{U}, mythic, US$ 19.53) — Three-mana blue Chandra, loyalty 3. +1: surveil 1 and get the card back if it's a noncreature, nonland card; +1: add {U} for noncreature spells; −X: tap an artifact or creature and put X stun counters on it; −6: an emblem that draws a card whenever you cast a spell.
  • Garruk, Veiled Butcher ({3}{B}{B}, mythic, US$ 19.41) — Five-mana black Garruk, loyalty 5: opponents' creatures that would die are exiled instead. +2: −4/−1 on a creature until your next turn; −2: each player sacrifices a creature and, if you did, you get a 4/4 trampling Beast; −3: each opponent discards two cards.
  • Ajani Unrelenting ({4}{R}{R}, mythic, US$ 14.52) — Six-mana red Ajani, loyalty 5, that makes a 2/2 Cadet token whenever you activate a loyalty ability. +1: +1/+0 and haste for your team; −2: discard your hand and draw a card per creature; −3: 4 damage to each creature except your tokens.
  • Chandra, Torch of Defiance ({2}{R}{R}, mythic, US$ 11.71) — Reprint of the four-mana Chandra, loyalty 4. +1: exile the top card and cast it, or deal 2 damage to each opponent; +1: add {R}{R}; −3: 4 damage to a creature; −7: an emblem that deals 5 damage whenever you cast a spell.
  • Garruk, Curse Breaker ({3}{G}{G}, mythic, US$ 13.80) — Five-mana green Garruk, loyalty 5, that draws a card whenever a creature with power 4 or greater enters under your control. +2: untap up to two lands; −3: 4/4 trampling Beast; −4: until your next turn, creatures attacking opponents get +2/+2 and trample.

10 uncommons worth a look

Most echoed pairs are uncommons. These ten show up in reviews or are famous pairs:

  • Fblthp, Impossibly Lost ({1}{U}, uncommon, US$ 1.52) — Blue 1/1 Homunculus: when opponents are dealt combat damage during your turn, you draw two; if your library is empty, you win. Then he shuffles himself into your library.
  • Fblthp, Knows the Way ({X}{G}{G}, uncommon, US$ 1.57) — The green pair: {X}{G}{G}, fetches up to X differently named basic lands to your hand; its power equals the number of basic land types you control (domain).
  • Countersculpt ({U}{U}, uncommon, US$ 1.50) — {U}{U} counterspell that requires you to behold a Jace or pay {1} more, and also empowers Jace 1.
  • Multiply by Zero ({1}{B}, uncommon, US$ 0.95) — Two-mana instant that sets a creature's base power and toughness to 0/0 until end of turn — it handles even indestructible creatures.
  • Saheeli, Consul of Oversight ({3}{W}{W}, uncommon, US$ 0.33) — Five-mana 4/4 flying Advisor that makes a 1/1 flying Thopter when you scry or surveil (once each turn).
  • Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive ({1}{U}, uncommon, US$ 1.99) — Reprint: your creatures with power or toughness 1 or less can't be blocked.
  • Thalia, the Survivor ({3}{W}, uncommon, US$ 1.33) — Four-mana 3/4 Thalia with lifelink: opponents' noncreature spells cost {1} more.
  • Geist of Saint Thalia ({1}{U}, uncommon, US$ 0.77) — The blue pair: a two-mana 1/2 flying Spirit that makes your noncreature spells cost {1} less.
  • Tinybones, Pocket Nuisance ({2}{B}, uncommon, US$ 1.69) — Three-mana 2/1 Skeleton: when it enters, each opponent discards; whenever a player discards, it deals 1 damage to each opponent.
  • Yargle, Goliath of Otaria ({4}{U}, uncommon, US$ 1.05) — The set's joke: the blue Yargle is a five-mana 3/9 frog with no abilities at all — the pair of the original 9/3 Yargle, reprinted as the black version.

What about the Special Guests and Commander cards?

Outside the main set, Reality Fracture brings a 10-card Special Guests panorama (numbers 159 to 168 on Scryfall): Eye of Ugin, Austere Command, Flesh Duplicate, Consign to Memory, Sublime Epiphany, Consider, Necrodominance, Mind Twist, Splinter Twin and Root Maze. On September 27, the most expensive of them with a listed price on Scryfall was Consign to Memory, at US$ 49.62. The Commander decks (code FRC) include reprints such as Sunfall, Archon of Cruelty and Flawless Maneuver, which Draftsim listed among the best reprints of the release.

What to expect in each format?

The first reviews already point to where each card should show up. These are the cited authors' opinions, not tournament results — the set isn't even out yet.

  • Commander: Kristen Gregory, on the Card Kingdom blog (September 25), says Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun is "going to make waves in cEDH", calls Loyal Tutor a huge pickup for Superfriends decks and sees Hexhaven Invigorator mostly working as a four-mana 6/6 that needs support. The same list includes Hall of Echoes, Karn, Argent Defender (compared to Torpor Orb) and Craterclaw Colossus.
  • Best new cards: Draftsim's ranking, by Pedro Furtado, puts Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun first, followed by Flickering Hound, Vraska, Soul of Stone, Karn, Argent Defender, Ajani Resolute and The Theorist, Jace Beleren.
  • Standard: Romeu, on Cardsrealm (September 25), names Liliana the Faultless the most promising lifegain card, considers Theorist's Proxy essential for the Jace deck and sees Darklight Phoenix as a potential high-impact card. On Tarmogoyf, the verdict is limited viability in the format.
  • Against the hype: Timothy Linward, at Wargamer (September 16), called the new Emrakul "by far the weakest Emrakul" and attributed much of the demand for Tarmogoyf to nostalgia.
  • Limited: Andrew Quinn's review at Draftsim (September 21) describes 10 two-color archetypes — five named after the Elder Sphinxes and five after characters (Liliana, Garruk, Jace and Vraska, Chandra and Ajani) — and gives 10/10 to Lyra, Tolarian Archangel, 9/10 to Guiding Hydra, 8/10 to Chandra, Chill of Compliance and 7/10 to Kindred Judgment.

What changes for buyers, sellers and collectors

Preorder prices keep falling. Compared with the check we ran on September 23, Emrakul, the Exigent Doom went from US$ 68.34 to US$ 33.06 (−51.6%), Hexhaven Invigorator from US$ 60.90 to US$ 43.08 (−29.3%), Garruk, Veiled Butcher from US$ 30.01 to US$ 19.41 (−35.3%) and The Theorist, Jace Beleren from US$ 35.76 to US$ 26.97 (−24.6%), always the TCGplayer market price via Scryfall, non-foil.

What you can do with that:

  • Want to play a specific mythic? Compare today's price with last week's before buying; for the four cards above, waiting paid off.
  • Opening boosters to sell? The most expensive card today is a green mythic (Hexhaven Invigorator, US$ 43.08); the most expensive rare, Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun, was at US$ 25.72. Of the 62 rares with a listed price, 54 were between US$ 1 and US$ 10 — most of a booster's value sits in the mythics.

Our take

This section is opinion, based on the facts above.

Reality Fracture looks like a set made more for Commander than for competitive formats: the reviews we read agree that the strongest cards are the ones with unique effects — Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun, Karn, Argent Defender, Loyal Tutor, Hall of Echoes — while the names that drove preorders (Emrakul, Tarmogoyf) get cooler evaluations. The drop in those two since September 23 fits that reading. For Standard, the most cited bet is the Jace deck, which depends on many empower Jace cards together; it's worth waiting for the first tournament results before paying up for its pieces.

Frequently asked questions

When does Reality Fracture release?

Reality Fracture reaches MTG Arena on September 29, 2026 and physical stores on October 2, 2026. Prerelease runs from September 25 to October 1.

How many rares and mythics does Reality Fracture have?

The main set has 64 rares and 26 mythics, plus 71 commons and 109 uncommons. Among rares and mythics, 14 rares and 6 mythics are echoed pairs.

What is the most expensive card in Reality Fracture?

On September 27, 2026, it was Hexhaven Invigorator, at US$ 43.08 TCGplayer market price (non-foil, via Scryfall). Emrakul, the Exigent Doom, which led during preorders, was at US$ 33.06.

Is Tarmogoyf back in Standard?

Yes. Tarmogoyf is reprinted in Reality Fracture as a mythic, and Scryfall lists it as legal in Standard, Pioneer and Modern. The reviews we read, however, expect little impact from it in current Standard.

What is empower Jace?

It's the set's main mechanic: you put loyalty counters on a Jace planeswalker token and, if you don't have one, you create the token first. The token has "−1: Surveil 1" and "−3: Draw a card".
