Is the Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Marvel's History of Heroes worth US$ 199.99? Announced by Wizards of the Coast on October 16, 2026, the kit contains 30 Magic cards with Marvel comic art and goes on sale on November 2, 2026, only on the Secret Lair website. Adding up the cheapest copy of each existing card, the 28 reprints were worth US$ 241.77 on October 19, 2026 — but just seven of them account for US$ 199.92 of that total.
What was announced?
The Countdown Kit is a box of 30 individually packaged cards, each with new art from an artist connected to Marvel — more than 30 artists in total, according to Wizards. Each card can come non-foil, foil or, more rarely, surge foil. The price is US$ 199.99 and sales start on November 2, 2026, exclusively at MagicSecretLair.com; Star City Games gives the time as 9 AM Pacific (2 PM in Brasília).
The kit was revealed by Marvel at New York Comic Con, held October 8–11, 2026, in the same batch of announcements as Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, the Universes Beyond set that reaches stores on April 9, 2027. It came alongside "Secret Lair x Marvel: Doomsdrop", focused on Doctor Doom, still without a price or date.
According to Draftsim, the box imitates a comic book storage box and each card comes sealed in its own plastic sleeve. It is the first Countdown Kit since An Encyclopedia of Magic, announced on November 3, 2025 at the same price, with 26 cards.
What are the 30 cards in the kit?
There are 28 reprints and two new cards. The official list, with the price of each card's cheapest printing (Scryfall, TCGplayer market price, non-foil, English, October 19, 2026):
- Fierce Guardianship — US$ 60.42
- Biorhythm — US$ 34.29
- Tainted Pact — US$ 30.29
- Timber Protector — US$ 23.41
- Opposition Agent — US$ 19.47
- Devastation — US$ 18.48
- Molten Duplication — US$ 13.56
- From US$ 1 to US$ 10 — Heroic Intervention (US$ 9.51), Fighter Class (US$ 8.73), Snuff Out (US$ 5.43), Damning Verdict (US$ 3.01), Mjölnir, Storm Hammer (US$ 2.71), Titanic Ultimatum (US$ 2.15), Vigor (US$ 1.87), Damn (US$ 1.76) and Champion's Helm (US$ 1.01)
- Under US$ 1 — Court of Bounty, Unbreakable Formation, Lightning Bolt, Villainous Wrath, With Great Power . . ., Force of Virtue, Genesis Wave, Fiery Confluence, Rogue's Gloves, Unholy Heat, Collective Effort and Primal Might: 12 cards that add up to US$ 5.67
- New cards — Doctor Strange, Master of Magic and Beta Ray Bill, still without a price
The 30 kit versions already appear on Scryfall in the Secret Lair Countdown (SLC) set, numbers 54 to 83.

How much are the cards worth combined?
By our count, the 28 reprints add up to US$ 241.77, about US$ 42 above the kit's price — not counting foils, surge foils or the two new cards. Draftsim, which added up the lowest TCGplayer market price on October 16, 2026, reached about US$ 256. The two counts differ mainly on Vigor: Draftsim uses US$ 12, while Scryfall already lists a 2026 printing at US$ 1.87.
The value is concentrated. The seven most expensive cards add up to US$ 199.92 — practically the price of the box —, and Fierce Guardianship alone is a quarter of the total. The other 21 cards are worth US$ 41.85 together.
Three caveats about that sum:
- It is the price of the cheapest copy. The kit version has new art and may be worth more or less than that on the secondary market; nobody knows yet, because it has not started selling.
- Reprints tend to push down the price of older copies, and today's number comes before the kit arrives.
- Foils are luck. Wizards does not disclose the rate. Buyers of earlier kits reported, according to Draftsim, one or two surge foils per box on average, with cases of six or seven — reports, not official data.
What is new to play?
The two new cards are uncommons from Marvel: Darkhold Destiny that show up early in the kit and only become legal in all formats starting with the set's prerelease, on April 2, 2027.
- Doctor Strange, Master of Magic ({2}{W}{U}) — 2/3 legendary creature with flying, vigilance and prowess; taps to draw a card if you have already cast a noncreature spell this turn.
- Beta Ray Bill ({2}{G/W}) — legendary creature with Valiant: the first time each turn you target him, he gets a +1/+1 counter, and so does up to one God you control.

Among the reprints, the weight is on Commander: Fierce Guardianship, Tainted Pact and Opposition Agent are legal in Commander and Legacy, but not in Modern, according to Scryfall.
Does Secret Lair ship to Brazil?
Yes. The official Secret Lair shipping FAQ, updated on January 20, 2026, lists Brazil among the destinations of the United States store. Orders under US$ 2,500 ship DDP: the store's operator collects import taxes and fees at checkout, and shipping is shown before you complete the purchase. So the final price in reais is only known at payment time.
What changes for buyers, sellers and collectors
- If you only want one or two cards, compare first: the seven most expensive cards already add up to the box price, so buying Fierce Guardianship or Biorhythm singly may cost less than the whole kit with shipping and taxes. See who sells Fierce Guardianship on Collector Union.
- If you have copies to sell of the kit's most expensive cards, weigh the timing: they get one more printing from November 2, 2026.
- If you collect Marvel or Secret Lair, you need the kit to own Doctor Strange and Beta Ray Bill with this art before April 2027. To compare with the last Secret Lair we analyzed, read the value of each Corn Maze drop and the other articles under the Secret Lair tag.
- If you buy to resell, remember that the sealed kit's price after the sale has no history: this is the first Marvel-themed Countdown Kit.

Our take
This section is opinion, based on the numbers above. For Commander players who do not yet own Fierce Guardianship, Biorhythm, Tainted Pact or Timber Protector, the kit is a reasonable way to get several expensive cards at once, with art that does not exist in any other printing. For those who already own them, what is left is 21 reprints worth about US$ 42 combined and two uncommons that, for now, only have collector value.
The weak spot is the reliance on a few cards: if Fierce Guardianship drops with the reprint, the math changes fast. And for Brazilian buyers, the US$ 42 edge over the box price may disappear with shipping and taxes — it is worth simulating checkout before deciding.
